Is it really that easy? I say NO
If this last few weeks has taught me anything, it is that my body and brain don't always agree!
Maybe I've always been like this, my personality, but every time I am told I can't do something, all I want to do is DO IT. To not be able to practice yoga, or lift more than 5kg is driving me crazy .....and yes I get it and I am reminded to practice what I preach ( blah blah blah )
But in all truth I know that acceptance brings peace and fluidity and working with our bodies creates a place for healing and growth
Acceptance in human psychology is a person's assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition (often a negative or uncomfortable situation) without attempting to change it or protest it. The concept is close in meaning to acquiescence, derived from the Latin acquiēscere (to find rest in).[1]
Acceptance does not mean liking, wanting, choosing, or supporting, but by struggling against the pain, by resisting and rejecting it, we create undue suffering
Cast your mind back to a yoga class where you felt stuck, were in discomfort physically, or emotionally and how you responded. Did you lean into it, accept it? Or did you resist, hold on too tightly? And how did you feel?
And are you aware that your practice is a reflection of your life, off the mat?
Acceptance is a process and must be practiced consciously and it's very rare that you choose to accept, past trauma, family, our bodies and difficult situations one day and never think about it again. It's natural to move between acceptance and resistance.
Acceptance doesn't mean you're giving up, you can accept your body and still change it, accept your emotions and their transiency one day, when you might change it tomorrow
Acceptance can be practiced in all areas of your life, recognising that you cannot change this exact moment and by accepting, manages any waves of anxiety and helps calm your nervous system
How can you practice it more in the present moment?
